Mezzanine floor installation
A mezzanine floor is a free-standing steel platform built inside an existing building to add a second level of usable floor space, usually for storage, offices or production. We design, get Building Regulations approval for, and install complete mezzanine floors across Great Britain, with staircases, handrails, pallet gates and fire protection included where they are needed.
How we approach mezzanine floor installation
Most mezzanines are a bolted steel frame: square hollow section columns on base plates fixed to your existing floor slab, hot-rolled primary beams, and cold-rolled secondary joists carrying the deck. Because the structure stands on its own columns, it rarely needs anything from the building's walls or roof, and it can be extended, altered or moved later.
Every job starts with a survey of the clear height, the column grid you can live with, the floor slab and how goods and people will move. From that we produce a general arrangement drawing and structural calculations for your load, submit to Building Control, and give you a fixed price that names the deck, stair, edge protection and fire protection.
Installation is fast compared with building work. A typical 100–300 m² storage mezzanine is erected in a few days once the steel arrives, and we can phase the work around a working warehouse so the operation keeps running.

Questions people ask
How long does it take to install a mezzanine floor?
Design and Building Control usually take one to three weeks and steel fabrication three to six weeks. On site, a 100–300 m² storage mezzanine typically goes up in two to five working days; large or fire-protected floors take longer.
Do I need Building Regulations approval for a mezzanine?
Yes. A mezzanine is new structure and adds floor area, so it needs Building Regulations approval covering structure, fire safety, stairs and guarding. We prepare the drawings and calculations and manage the application.
How much height do I need for a mezzanine floor?
As a rule of thumb, around 5m clear to the underside of the roof steel gives two usable levels, with about 2.4m or more under the deck. Lower buildings can still take a storage mezzanine with reduced headroom on top.
Can a mezzanine be moved later?
Yes. Bolted steel mezzanines can be dismantled, altered and re-erected. The design and Building Regulations approval need checking again for the new building.
