Industrial and plant platforms

Industrial and plant platforms are steel platforms built around machinery, process lines, tanks or rooftop plant so people can operate, inspect and maintain them safely at height. We design them to the equipment, with chequer plate or open grating decks, handrails, kick plates, gates and access stairs or ladders.

How we approach industrial and plant platforms

A plant platform is shaped around what it serves. We survey the machine, its maintenance points and guards, the cable trays and pipework, then design a platform that gives safe standing room where people actually need to work, rather than a generic rectangle.

Decks are usually galvanised open grating, which lets light and dust through and does not hold water, or steel chequer plate where small parts must not fall through. Edges get handrails with mid-rails and kick plates, and openings get self-closing gates.

Platforms are often installed during planned shutdowns. We prefabricate as much as possible so the time on site is short and the line restarts on schedule.

What the job includes

  • Survey and design around the machine and maintenance points
  • Galvanised grating or chequer plate decks
  • Handrails, mid-rails, kick plates and self-closing gates
  • Access stairs or ladders to suit the space
  • Prefabricated for shutdown installation
  • Designed for point loads from equipment

Best for: Factories, food and drink plants, recycling sites, plant rooms and process lines.

What happens after you get in touch

  1. Send the details

Floor size, clear height, postcode and what will go on the mezzanine, through the form, the guide-price tool, phone or WhatsApp.

  2. Free survey

We measure the building, check the slab, doors, racking, lights and sprinklers, and agree the load and layout.

  3. Design and fixed quote

Drawings, structural calculations and a written price naming the deck, stairs, gates and fire protection.

  4. Approve, install, sign off

Building Control approval, steel fabrication, installation around your operation, then the completion certificate.

Questions people ask

Grating or chequer plate for a plant platform?

Open grating is the usual choice: it is light, lets dust and water through and does not get slippery. Chequer plate suits areas where small parts or tools must not drop through.

Can you install during our shutdown?

Yes. We prefabricate the steel and plan the installation around your shutdown window so the line restarts on time.

Do plant platforms need Building Regulations approval?

It depends on the platform and how it is used. Access platforms for maintenance are often treated differently from occupied floors. We confirm the position with Building Control on each job.
