Mezzanine Floors UK

Mezzanine relocation and reconfiguration

Mezzanine relocation means dismantling an existing bolted steel mezzanine, moving it and re-erecting it in a new building or a new layout, adding or removing bays as needed. It can save a large part of the cost of new steel when a business moves or reorganises.

How we approach mezzanine relocation

Before anything comes apart we survey the existing mezzanine and its drawings, check the condition of the steel and deck, and look at how it fits the new building: clear height, slab, column grid and escape routes. Not every mezzanine suits every building, and the design has to be checked again.

We dismantle in sequence, tag every component against a drawing, and transport it to the new site. Worn deck boards, damaged edge protection and anything that no longer meets current regulations is replaced, and new steel is added where the layout changes.

The re-erected mezzanine needs Building Regulations approval in its new location, and often fire protection or stairs that the original did not have. We include that in the plan.

What the job includes

  • Survey of the existing mezzanine and new building
  • Design check for the new layout and loads
  • Sequenced dismantling with tagged components
  • Transport and re-erection
  • New deck, stairs, gates or fire protection where needed
  • Building Regulations approval at the new site

Best for: Business relocations, warehouse reorganisations and landlords recovering or reusing mezzanines.

Questions people ask

Is it worth moving a mezzanine?

Often, yes, for well-kept bolted mezzanines. Reusing the steel can save a large part of the cost of new, but the new building, load and regulations must suit it.

Does a relocated mezzanine need Building Regulations approval?

Yes. It is treated as new work in its new location, and may need fire protection, stairs or guarding that the original did not have.

Can you change the size when you move it?

Yes. Bays can be added or removed, and new steel matched to the existing system.
